Projects

I have many interests and dreams. I turn dreams into reality by defining them into projects, and then working to conclude them successfully.

[edit] Current Projects

These projects that are in progress right now:

[edit] Logos

My van is going through a lot of really cool upgrades.

[edit] HelixWind

HelixWind is a startup company that manufactures and sells elegant and inexpensive wind turbines. It was founded by my friend Ken Morgan. I'm not directly involved in the company, but I have an interest in it and I help to nurture it in a few small ways.

[edit] Tango

I wish to be a true tanguero. This project has no end date.

[edit] Spanish

I aspire to fluency in Spanish. Like tango, there is no ending.

[edit] Go

The greatest strategy game ever created, far superior to chess. Also a project that cannot be completed.

[edit] Philosophy Degree

I'm attending UCSD as a full-time undergrad majoring in philosophy. I plan to complete my degree by the end of the Spring 2008 term.

[edit] The Long Now Photography Project

My ongoing effort to scan all my print photography, which began in 2002. I continue to work on this project to bring the old emulsion-based photos into the digital realm. The objective: a multi-volume archive of digital photography that may be shared with friends and family.

[edit] Crispyneurons Migration

in February 2006 I began to move crispyneurons.com from a flat HTML site to one based on MediaWiki. The main motivations were improved content management and revision history and support for multiple users. The Why wiki? page goes into detail. The migration has obviously taken quite a while; the site languished as the migration became a low-priority project, although I have been actively migrating content lately. A great deal of new content has been added as well.

[edit] Past Projects

These are projects I've completed:

[edit] Project Swirl

Project Swirl was my first hands-on attempt of environmental change. I encouraged as many people as possible to replace their old, inefficient incandescent light bulbs with new, durable, very efficient, and very very swirly CFL bulbs. Replacing a single bulb helps reduce electrical load and pollution, fill less landfills and lowers the electric bill all at once. It's cheap, it's easy, it benefits you and the world... it's a no brainer.

The original project goal, which has been surpassed, was to replace a grand total 1000 incandescent bulbs with CFLs before Monday, August 27th, 2007, the first day of the burn. In fact the project reached its goal on July 30th, just 14 days after it was first announced. The final results are presented on the playa and a sculpture to to honor the project participants is created, which goes in the Red Light District.

[edit] Bizarre Repudiation

This art project is my expression of the nature of mind, God and unknowable truths, such as Chaitin's omega. I began it in in 1997 and completed it in 2006, although there were multi-year pauses in between.

[edit] Mesa College

I attended Mesa for about two years in preparation for transferring to UCSD. I took almost all my lower division classes there, and aced every single one.

[edit] Weight Loss

From March 2002 to June 2003 I lost a total of 70 lbs., going from a weight of 250 down to 180. This was one of the most challenging projects I ever took on and completed.
