The beledi (somtimes spelled baladi, baladii, beledy, or balady) is a traditional Egyptian 4/4 rhythm. It's a variation of the folkloric maqsoum rhythm and might be the most common rhythm in belly dance music.
Confusingly, beledi is sometimes called the 'masmoudi saghir' (lit. "little masmoudi," compared to the the 8/4 rhythm known as masmoudi) or even maqsoum, a different but related rhythm.
In its most basic form it plays like this:
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
