The ayyoub or ayyub (also sometimes called zaar) is a traditional Egyptian 2/4 rhythm. The name 'ayyoub' is supposed to have come from a radio show in Cairo. It is a religious beat used in dance and to ward off evil spirits. It can be commonly heard as a fast pace beat in modern belly dance music.
